THE MONDAY WEBINAR SERIES:

Spines Don’t Collapse, They Negotiate

Your spine isn’t a tower, it's a constantly adapting story.

The spine is often talked about as if it's a fragile stack of bones being held upright by muscles desperately trying to stop it falling apart.

But that's just not how living bodies work.

In this webinar, we’ll look at the spine as a responsive, adaptive system that constantly negotiates load, gravity, breath, pressure, fatigue, attention, movement and the environment.

This is a webinar about moving beyond posture panic, alignment obsession and the idea that spinal pain can usually be explained by one weak muscle, one disc, one joint, or one “bad” position.

In this webinar we'll explore

  • Why the spine is not a fragile tower

  • Why “posture” is often the wrong starting point

  • Why spinal curves aren't design flaws

  • Why pain is rarely explained by one disc, joint or weak muscle

  • How spines manage load through movement, pressure and adaptation

  • Why stiffness may sometimes be a strategy, not just a problem

  • Why “neutral spine” can become a useful idea or an unhelpful obsession

  • How breath, ribs, pelvis and nervous system all influence spinal behaviour

  • What this means for therapists, movement teachers and anyone working with bodies

We use the phrase 'spinal column, like it's some kind of solid structure

The common story

We are often told that the spine is something that needs to be stacked, corrected, stabilised, braced or held in place.

Too much curve.
Not enough curve.
Weak core.
Poor posture.
Too much sitting.
Wrong alignment.

It sounds plausible because the spine looks like a column but in reality it's much more than a stack of bricks.

The spine is alive and adapting constantly. It's responsive and changes strategy depending on what the whole system is asking it to do.

Understanding how loads impact on spinal dynamics helps to steer the focus away from a single 'problem' and instead begin to understand how the system is adapting

Spines don't collapse - They negotiate

This webinar is for therapists, movement teachers and those who want a more realistic way of thinking about shoulder anatomy and function

In this webinar we'll explore;

  • Rethinking the 'stacking' models around the spine

  • How tiny muscular structures create constant balance

  • Why spines never 'go out' or need to be 'put back'

  • Why back pain is rarely spinal in origin

  • What spinal deformities look like and how spines adapt

  • Why movement changes and load matters

  • Why the old models of spinal load may be harmful

Don't just take our word for it...

"To 'see' the soft tissue we as therapists think we influence is a privilege. Julian Baker makes all the right connections between the 'tissue' and considerations for therapeutic intervention. Functional Anatomy is a must for all 'hands on' therapists. It is also a must for the 'hands off' body of therapists! Seeing is believing.."

"Captivating, often bizarre and incredible insights into the human body like you have never seen before. Always life changing sessions, questioning the “norm” as we are taught it and bringing new dimensions to your practise.

If you attend one of Julian's classes your working brain will be changed forever - for the better and you will only want to see more!! His humour is also legendary!!"

"I have just participated in the scar tissue dissection course. This is an incredible lesson in anatomy. Julian takes you on a journey thru a human body like you've never been before. It is amazing to see how a human body is really built, how strong, how resilient. Eye-opening and educating. Thank you.

I will be back for more."
